A few storms tonight, some may be severe, then more storms Sun/Mon/Tue: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 3/24/23

This may look pretty menacing:

And there is the potential for some robust storms to the NW. But down around our neck of the woods, it doesn’t look as supportive for severe weather. You may not even get rain tonight! It will all depend on location. The closer you live to I-20 and points north of that, the better the potential you see a severe storm.

Model guidance is not very impressed with the potential for storms south of I-20 in Mississippi.

The meagerness of the line as it moves through means that we can trim some of the potential threats / concerns a bit.

WHO SEES WHAT DURING THE STORMS?
EVERYONE — Breezy conditions, wind gusts up to 35mph
MOST AREAS — Breezy conditions, brief rain shower, wind gusts up to 45mph
SOME PEOPLE — Breezy conditions, brief heavy rain, lightning, wind gusts up to 50mph, small hail
FEW SPOTS — Breezy conditions, very heavy rain, lightning, wind gusts up to 70mph, hail up to the size of half dollars, the chance for a tornado (up to EF-2 in strength)

The Karrie Meter is down a bit. But generally is about the same. The “TOR LEAN” is still higher than the Karrie Meter which means the tornado threat remains statistically “higher than normal” in this type of setup.

Notice that the timeline is a bit different, too. Instead, it now shows a brief shot for storms after dinner and then the front moving through overnight.

I think the highest risk for severe weather is closer to I-20 and then – of course – points northwest of that and up into the Delta. And then overnight across parts of northern Mississippi.

Once this rolls through, then we face a bit of unsettled weather as we move through the weekend and into next week. In fact, I’m thinking that more folks see storms on Sunday and Monday than see just simple rain today.

Of course, you can follow along with the weather all day and night over on the app. It’ll have the latest from the SPC, a live look at the radar, the future radar estimates, and – of course – alert you if the National Weather Service issues a watch/warning for your area.

REGIONAL DAY TO DAY FORECAST
