Dry weather continues, some rain arrives next week — maybe: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 10/23/23

The big weather story continues to be how warm and dry it will be the next few days. There is some hope for cooler temps and some rain… But that is quite a bit later this the forecast.

In the meantime, this morning, we may encounter some patchy fog until around 8 am. After that, expect mostly sunny skies with a high temperature reaching about 85F. The wind will start off calm but will gradually shift to come from the southeast at around 5 mph. then tonight skies will become partly cloudy, and the temperature will drop to around 60F.

There is a chance it may be a bit hazy and smell a bit smokey in some spots today, too. the model guidance for near-surface smoke is showing some shading across parts of the area.

Tuesday is looking sunny with a high temperature near 85F. It may be a bit breezy at times. That may also increase the fire danger a bit, too. Expect a southeast wind blowing at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts possibly reaching as high as 20 mph. Tuesday night should stay mostly clear with the temperature dipping to around 60F.

Wednesday and Thursday we’re looking at mostly sunny conditions and a high near 80F. Things may still be a bit breezy with gusts possibly reaching up to 20 mph. Both nights should feature mostly clear skies, and the temperature will drop to around 60F.

Friday and through the weekend look for the dry weather to continue with highs around 85F and overnight lows around 60F.

By next Monday and Tuesday the next front should arrive with a shot for some rain. As you can see above by my very artistic annotation, we should get a decent surge of moisture ahead of a cold front. Right now, though, the shot for rain looks pretty meager because the forcing along the cold front may not be as robust as we need it to be. But as we get closer we should get a better idea about the timing and how much rain we may see. But for the moment, things remain pretty dry.
