South Mississippi Forecast 8/12/21: Storms again today, with eyes on Fred

Another day, another round of showers and storms possible in the afternoon. Not much will be different today. It does look like storms won’t be quite as potent, but a few strong storms will be possible.

Heat Index continues to be a concern, too. Highs will be in the 90s, but with the humidity it will feel like it is up around 105. If you have to be outside working, take plenty of breaks and drink tons of water. I don’t want to hear about folks fallin’ out due to dehydration.

My favorite part about “Heat Safety” is the ways to accomplish it: Relax.

Like, imagine if “Hurricane Safety” could be accomplished by just sitting down in the shade and having a glass of cold water. That would be great! But that is exactly the way to protect yourself from Heat Stroke. Find a cool glass of water, some shade, and a fan if you have one. Air Conditioning is even better!

We will play the same song and dance tomorrow, so if you miss out on the heat and humidity and storms today, don’t worry, more are on the way tomorrow!

Tropics

Here is the latest from the NHC on Fred. It got beat up pretty good by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, now it will be moving through the water between Cuba and Florida, but it looks to hug the Cuban coast, so that may limit the ability for the storm to really wrap itself up.

I still wouldn’t be surprised if it makes a run at becoming a hurricane in the Gulf, but for now, it has a tough road ahead of itself during the next 72 hours.
