Warm today, showers this weekend, drier next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 4/19/24

After the fog this morning, it is going to get pretty warm this afternoon. The airmass that was in place across Houston yesterday is migrating toward the area today. In Houston, yesterday, I know I hit 87 on my back porch, so I wouldn’t be surprised if folks hit 86F to 88F across the area with a few spots likely sneaking close to 90.

In short: It’ll be warm.

Then the rain moves in for the weekend to help cool things down a bit. Saturday there won’t be a big drop in temps, but it will likely top out in the mid 80s. Then Sunday with the rain rolling through – for most folks near or before noon – it’ll cap temperatures around 70 degrees.

In total, model guidance suggests in general about 1″ to 3″ across the area. but the higher resolution guidance shows a few spots may pick up a bit more than 3″ of rain between now and Sunday morning.

Also important to note how sharp the cut-off is between folks with rain and folks with no rain. The closer you are the coast the drier you will be Saturday. But that will change on Sunday when the coast will end up with a pretty decent shot for showers.

Once the rain moves through, though, we start to dry out for next week.
