Rain today, cooler tomorrow, drier for the weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 2/2/23

Here comes the rain again. I know some of you can hear The Eurythmics in your head, right now. Others of you are saying, “Again? More rain? What is this… Groundhog Day?!”

And yes, yes it is!

Today is the day that we all gather round a stump and way to see what a medium-sized rodent has to say about the weather forecast for the next six weeks.

Nevermind that we have advanced technology that can do a better job of this than any human… let’s ask a woodland critter! I’m joking, of course. Groundhog Day is a fun little event. And a great movie. As an aside (just in case there is any confusion here), a bit like the weather forecasts from the Farmer’s Almanac, there is no real Science that goes into this event. It’s for fun, not for use of actual prognostication.

For actual prognostication, we rely on math, science, and computer modeling. It isn’t perfect, but it is the best we’ve got.

And what we’ve got for a forecast today is rain. Maybe some rumbles of thunder, too. But it will be a pretty chilly day. The rain will likely last most of the day, too. Some spots are already dealing with light rain and drizzle this morning. That will increase in intensity through the day and last into this evening.

In fact, in many spots the rain will hang around overnight and into tomorrow morning.

Behind the rain, cooler air will settle into the area. And temperatures may be cool enough for some of the lingering showers on Friday morning to have a sleet pellet mixed in here and there. Not enough to ‘do’ anything, but you may hear a few ‘plink’ sounds on your car or metal roof.

Beyond that, we dry out for the weekend!

  1. Joy, more rain. I’m almost through with my ark that I started building on last month. Oh, and one of the over-sized rodents (the one in PA) saw his shadow … the one in GA didn’t. So, does that mean just 3 more weeks of Winter? I’m ready for Summer!
